Uwe Bolls’ attempt at respectfully handling the final hours of Jewish prisoners being executed at the Auschwitz concentration camp during WW2 is haunting and at times hard to sit through. The first and last 15 minutes of the film are hard to sit through, due to Boll’s sad attempt at documentary filmmaking, where Q&A sessions with random German high school students being quizzed on their knowledge of the holocaust are in some way supposed to be profound. Sandwiched between these Q&As is a reenactment of one of the most heinous acts mankind has ever witnessed. This middle section of the film is not for the weak of heart and although I don’t think I will ever watch it again, I am certainly glad that it exists.
