Another Hole in The Head 2011: Horri-Boll’s “Auschwitz”, “Bloodrayne: The Third Reich” and “Eaters” – Reviews, Trailers and Showtimes

Auschwitz

Uwe Bolls’ attempt at respectfully handling the final hours of Jewish prisoners being executed at the Auschwitz concentration camp during WW2 is haunting and at times hard to sit through.  The first and last 15 minutes of the film are hard to sit through, due to Boll’s sad attempt at documentary filmmaking, where Q&A sessions with random German high school students being quizzed on their knowledge of the holocaust are in some way supposed to be profound.  Sandwiched between these Q&As is a reenactment of one of the most heinous acts mankind has ever witnessed.  This middle section of the film is not for the weak of heart and although I don’t think I will ever watch it again, I am certainly glad that it exists.  Finally, a Uwe Boll film that is hard to sit through for a reason other than it sucking. Another Hole In The Head 2011: Ubaldo Terzani Horror Show – Review, Trailer and Showtimes

I am all too aware that trailers for movies are, more often than not, deceptive and lead to disappointment.  Knowing this, I went into Gabriele Albanesi‘s Ubaldo Terzani Horror Show fully prepared to once again be let down from what the preview suggested I’d be seeing.

The preview, which you can see for yourself after the jump, had me believing that the name Albanesi would soon ring synonymous with Bava (A Blade in The Dark, Twitch of the Death Nerve, Blood and Black Lace), Argento (Opera, Blood Red, Tenebre), and Fulci (The New York Ripper, A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin, Don’t Torture a Duckling). In their prime the three were largely considered to be the greatest Italian directors of the Horror subgenre known as Giallo.  Could Ubaldo Terzani Horror Show be the film to revitalize this relic of a genre? Another Hole In The Head 2011: Bad Behaviour – Review, Trailer and Showtimes

  • Violence
  • Gangsters
  • Sociopaths
  • Cool dialogue driven scenes
  • A suitcase full of money
  • Pop culture references
  • A dance sequence
  • Blood
  • Lots of bad behaviour (hence the film’s title)
  • Pulp Fiction-esque time sequencing.

Despite of what all this may suggest, Joseph Stephen Sims‘ (director/writer/producer) debut feature-length film is not the second coming of Tarantino.  That’s not to say that it isn’t one hell of a bloody good time either. Read More…

Another Hole In The Head 2011: The Oregonian – Review, Trailer and Showtimes

For those of you looking for the safest way to experience a terrifyingly bad acid trip along the back roads of Oregon, look no further than Calvin Reeder‘s The Oregonian.  Okay, even if you’re not interested in knowing what it’s like to have a bad trip, chances are you will still walk away from this film having a little more empathy for those who have ever had one. Another Hole In The Head 2011: Apocrypha – Review, Trailer and Showtimes

Being that this website’s primary focus is highlighting films in San Francisco, when a festival such as AHITH comes along and announces that it has 4 full length features from Bay Area Filmmakers naturally our first instinct is to tell you what the film is, where it is playing, and why you should see it.

So, local filmmaker Michael Fredianelli‘s newest feature is called Apocrypha, it’s premiering at the Roxie Theatre on Saturday, June 11th, and you should see it because… ummm…. it’s a extraordinary excellent great pretty good average sub-par … well… because it’s… I know, because you’re the type of vampire completest that must see every film under the flesh burning sun no matter how awful the blood sucking story is told. Another Hole In The Head 2011: The Book – Review, Trailer and Showtimes

Ever wonder what it would be like to watch an entire film, or at least 3/4 of a film through the eyes of emotionally dead body snatchers?  Wonder no more!

The Book is a glorious throwback to 1980s fantasy that brilliantly brings you into the story through the thoughts of evil mind altering soul suckers.  In true sympathy for the Devil fashion, by the end of this film you might actually find yourself rooting for the soulless and quite comical protagonists just as I did.  And even if you don’t, you will no doubt walk away having witnessed something no mainstream theatres are going to screen any time soon, unless of course you have a time machine.  You don’t have a time machine do you? Another Hole In The Head 2011: Midnight Son – Review, Trailer and Showtimes

I don’t think there is any arguments to be had in stating that year after year Vampire films have been revamping themselves with the same unoriginality and uninspiring protagonists.  The same can be said for Vampire films that go out of their way to do everything in their power to be unique only to ultimately end up in their own Vampire subgenre of LookHowDifferentIAmThatILookTheSame films, ie., Midnight Son. Another Hole In The Head 2011: The Mole Man of Belmont Avenue – Review, Trailer and Showtimes

Imagine a low budget baby mutation of what you would get had Pineapple Express and Shaun of The Dead gotten together for a night of double-team reaming with the Ghostbusters movies.  You would no doubt be left with a horrifying pot-smoking buddy film entity that is constantly wetting itself with bong water and laughing tears of beer.  This is, of course, that you subscribe to the belief that movie entities are capable of even having intercourse.  I happen to know for a fact that they do, how else can you explain Son Of Rambo?  Anyway, moving on… Read More…
