February’s Poll: Which Nominee is Most Deserving of the Best Picture Oscar?

I hope people don’t put too much stock into the Oscars.  I hardly ever agree with the nominations let alone the winners.  This isn’t about your favorite movie of the year because there would be way to many possible answers.  Instead, we just want to know what best picture nominee deserves the Oscar the most.  You can vote on our sidebar or by following the jump Read More…

January 2012 Poll Results: Which of Steven Spielberg’s last 10 films is your favorite?

Can’t say I’m shocked about this one – “Saving Private Ryan” was voted as the best of Spielberg’s last 10 films. I Was surprised that “Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull” got any votes whatsoever.”Catch Me If You Can” was closest behind “Private Ryan” which is interesting as we just published an article pointing out the flaws of bio-pics. “Catch Me If You Can”, as fun as it is, leaves much to be desired in the character department. Well, folks, it’s about that time again.  The new year has come, and it is up to us to tell you what the best movies were last year because, let’s face it, we’d hate to force you to think for yourself.  We tried to do this as objectively as we possibly could, and, in using the scientific method, employed such tools as our trusty alembic, abacus, and many systems of levers and pulleys to finally arrive at the definite conclusions presented below. As a San Francisco native I am damn proud of our local occupation and excited to see the movement grow and spread throughout the world. The fact is that we are mad as hell, and we’re not going to take this anymore. Why should we sit back while governments all over the world allow the rich to steal from the poor? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? I mean, last time I checked Robin Hood was still the fucking good guy. It’s time for us to GET ANGRY. This is a list of ten films that will inspire, educate and entertain members of  Occupy and the 99%. I hope you enjoy them!

This Month’s Poll Question: Which of Steven Spielberg’s Last 10 Films Is Your Favorite?

What better time to have a Steven Spielberg poll than when the man has two films playing in theaters at the same time; The Adventures of Tin Tin, and War Horse.  Rather than try to decide from his impressive cinematic oeuvre 10 of his best films, I thought I would try to keep it more simple and only focus on his last 10 films.  Which of Steven Spielberg’s last 10 films is your favorite?  Cast your vote after the jump, or on the sidebar. December’s Poll Results: Who Played Your Favorite James Bond?

Nobody loves George Lazenby.

Poor George Lazenby couldn’t even get a single vote. I knew he wasn’t going to win but I figured somewhere out there there’s someone for everyone. I was wrong. There is no one for George Lazanby.

Sean Connery, on the other hand, is loved capturing almost half of the votes while Brosnan came in second with 22 percent. Our current Bond, Daniel Craig, pulled in 14 percent. To see the full results follow the jump.  Read More…

The Films Of Roman Polanski: The Fearless Vampire Killers (#4)

I wouldn’t call The Fearless Vampire Killers a failure – it was more of a letdown. Until this point, Polanski’s had successfully improved upon each of his past films.  The Fearless Vampire Killers is Polanski’s first step back and also his first true comedy.  It has an adult fairy tale element to it, something that Polanski would visit again in 2005′s Oliver Twist.  Much like the rest of his early work, the characters are trapped, this time however it’s more zany than claustrophobic as the film contains a fair amount of slapstick and gag humor.

The films’ plot is a variation on the basic Dracula story: two men, a professor, and his assistant (Polanski), travel to a remote Transylvania village in hopes of finding proof of vampires. When the beautiful daughter of the innkeeper (Tate) is kidnapped by a vampire and taken his castle, the two mount a rescue mission and vampire hokey-ness ensues. Read More…
