This Month’s Poll: What is Your Favorite Movie Starring Little People?

Annex - Curtis, Billy (Terror of Tiny Town, The)_01WTF!?  First, no short people are cast in Snow White and The Huntsman, and now not a single one will be starring in Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit.  This is an outrage!  Well, I for one am pissed, which is why were dedicating this month’s poll to all the wonderful movies that starred people of a shorter stature.  Vote for your favorite after the jump, or on the sidebar.

November Poll Results: Best Daniel Day-Lewis Movie

1-There-Will-Be-BloodThe results of last month’s poll are in, and I have to say, I am shocked.  Just kidding.  Actually, it’s not surprising in the least that the majority of people would choose There Will Be Blood as their favorite Daniel Day-Lewis movie.  Not to take anything away from any of his other great performances, but with the exception of Nine (which, surprisingly didn’t end up with the least amount of votes), the man has been smashing acting homers left and right.  Aside from Lincoln, which was not featured in the poll because the movie wasn’t out when the poll was created, There Will Be Blood is DDL’s most recent acclaimed performance.  Could that be the reason he won the poll, or could it just be that he is that damn good at playing a driven oil tycoon with a penchant for milkshakes?

Do you agree with the way the voting turned out?  Check out the poll results after the jump. Read More…

This Month’s Poll: What Is Your Favorite Daniel Day-Lewis Movie?

Believe it or not, behind that luscious mane of hairy scraggle resides one of the finest actors of our time, Daniel Day-Lewis.  With the release of Stephen Spielberg‘s latest film, Lincoln (where Mr. Day-Lewis will be portraying the eponymous President) scheduled to open later this month I thought now would be the perfect time to reflect on some of the great films this method acting marvel has been in.

September Poll Results: Best Paul Thomas Anderson Film

The clear winner of last month’s poll, wherein we asked which Paul Thomas Anderson film is your favorite, was his 1997 dramedy, and this author’s personal favorite, Boogie Nights.  Having not released his newest film, The Master, until later in the month we chose not to include it in the poll.  One can only speculate how the results would have turned out had we included it.

No matter, minus that film in the running I’d say the results turned out much as I predicted they would, with the only mild surprise being There Will Be Blood not taking the top prize.  Hard Eight coming in last was certainly no surprise, being that it’s probably PTA’s least popular film.  Follow the jump to see the results Read More…

This Month’s Poll: What is Your Favorite Paul Thomas Anderson Film?

In honor of this month’s release of The Master, Paul Thomas Anderson‘s 6th feature-length film, we wanted to know what your favorite PTA films is.  The way I see it, the man has only one flaw, which is Magnolia (I’ll explain my distaste for this film in another post).  Thus far, his filmography has proved to be one of the most original and consistent bodies of work, especially when you compare him to his peers who began making films around the same time as he did.  In terms of crafting modern day masterpieces within the constraints of wide-released Hollywood films, one would be hard-pressed to find an equal or talent greater than PTA’s.

Okay, Now that you’ve finished reading my butt-kissing praise for the second greatest living director currently making films, it’s time to vote.  To vote, jump to the next page, or go to the side-bar. Read More…

August Poll Results: Best Biopic

Last month’s poll we asked which film you thought was the best biopic.  In our attempt to not over saturate the poll, we chose just 10 films to choose from, not an easy thing to do, mind you.  Being that all these films have something special to offer, I’m not that surprised to see that every film got at least one vote and that the overall race was a close one.  Interesting to note that even though Martin Scorsese had two films in the poll (Raging Bull and Goodfellas) that neither one cracked the top 2, although Goodfellas tied Amadeus for third, with each earning 12.2% of the votes.  In the end though, it was Steven Spielberg‘s depiction of Oskar Schindler and his list that were the clear winner, getting 19.51% of the vote, followed closely by Lawrence of Arabia in second place with 14.63%.

This Month’s Poll: What’s The Best Biopic?

…And you thought balancing the free world’s budget, advanced calculus, and performing open heart surgery while coming off heroin were difficult, try narrowing down this month’s poll choices to only 10 movies.  Woe is me, right?  Of course, there are many noteworthy films that were left off the poll, but so as not to have the world’s largest poll – which, I believe belongs to Dirk Diggler, by the way – I turned to the internet’s trusty film encyclopedia, known as IMDB.com for some guidance.

Now that I have chosen the 10 films with the highest ratings in the biography genre section of the site, I leave it up to you to vote for which one you think is the best.  Make your vote count after the jump, and stop your bitching that films like Gandhi, Patton, and The Social Network didn’t make the cut. Poll Results: Best Paul Verhoeven Movie Is…

Last month we at Filmbalaya were curious as to what English-speaking Paul Verhoeven film was your favorite.  The results were somewhat interesting in that while Starship Troopers got the most votes (no surprise there) the Arnold Schwarzenegger lead vehicle, Total Recall got no love.  Seriously, not one single vote!  To see the full results of the poll follow the jump Read More…
