Try talking about the best horror soundtracks with any passionate fan(s) of the genre without mentioning the band Goblin. It’s unlikely to happen. Their eerily unique blend of high-energized psychedelic 1970s synthesized prog rock damn near revolutionized the effectiveness of horror films. In fact, it’s hard to think about what the movies they’ve been a part of would have been like without their classic tone-setting scores. I’d go so far as to say Dario Argento‘s Profondo Rosso (1975), Suspiria (1977), Tenbre (1982), and Phenomena (1984), as well as George A. Romero‘s Dawn of the Dead (1978) might not have been regarded as highly as they are today were it not for this band.
Being that more than a couple of us Filmbalayans are huge fans of their music you could imagine our delight when we found out Goblin was coming to San Francisco. On Sunday, October 20th they’ll be performing live, along with the band Secret Chiefs 3, at The Warfield (982 Market Street). Tickets are still available and should be bought immediately. Being that this is the band’s first ever North American tour, I’m sure the crowd will be quite large. CLICK ON CONCERT POSTER BELOW FOR TICKETS!
