Over the past few years director Kim Ji-woon has been constantly on point, especially when it comes to delivering adrenaline infused action sequences and uniquely interesting set pieces. Both I Saw the Devil (2010) and The Good, the bad, the weird (2008) are exceptional entries within their respective genres, western and revenge. With the trailer for Ji-woon’s latest film, The Last Stand, it appears this talented South Korean director is ready to start earning some of that mammoth cheddar Hollywood’s been dishing out to Mr. Transformers himself, Michael Bay.
From what I can tell from the trailer, the film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as an old-timey Sheriff who seems to be constantly surrounded by endless explosions and soon-to-be classic one-liners. In other words, it looks fucking awesome! While we will have already seen Arnold in his first return role to the big screen in The Expendables 2 by the time this comes out, The Last Stand will be his first starring role.
Truth be told, if this movie wasn’t directed by Ji-woon I wouldn’t even have taken the time to blog about it, yet alone see it. On paper, and in trailer, it looks like Schwarzenegger’s agent is making all the right moves. Now the question is, will it live up to the hype?
The Last Stand is set to open January 13, 2013. Check out the trailer after the jump
