The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu
This film is a singularly unique film showing the reflections of Romania’s dictator during his quick trial at the end of the Romanian Revolution by means of stock footage and added sound. It fittingly uses Eisensteinian concepts of montage to do this, as any socialist leader would prefer.

The Redemption of General Butt Naked
Deep rooted and conflicting questions on religion, forgiveness, humanity and what may or may not be the physical embodiment of what pure evil looks like were in constant flux throughout Daniele Anastasion and Eric Strauss‘ documentary on the warlord turned preacher Joshua Milton Blahyi (AKA “General Butt Naked”). How he acquired such a fanciful name, details on the war in which he fought, and whether or not his transformation from a mayhem inducing butcher of babies, women, and men to a righteous man of god is a sincere one I’ll leave for you to decide. as for getting your money’s worth out of a documentary at this year’s International Film Festival this is one film that will not let you down.

Tilva Rosh
Immediate comparisons to Larry Clark‘s Kids and MTV’s Jackass spring to mind while watching Nikola Lezaic‘s coming-of-age debut of youth in turmoil set against Bor, an industrial ghost town in Serbia. The film’s plot is minimal and doesn’t try to cheapen the bewildered just-out-of-highschool drama and angst of its youthful subjects. Regardless of what country you’re from, Tilva Rosh’s subtle theme is a universal and ultimately very powerful one.
